Overview of the Curriculum
Homework Expectations
In Year 4, children are expected to read for at least 15 minutes each day with an adult at home. Please can this be recorded in their reading records daily. This is a crucial element to the children’s progression in school. If children are not showing that they are reading consistently at home (with it written in their diary), then they will be asked to attend reading club on a Monday, Wednesday and Friday break time for 10 minutes.
Year 4 children will be given a weekly spelling list that focuses on the spelling pattern we are learning that week. We will have a spelling test every Friday and record scores to track progress. Please make sure your child is practicing these spelling words each week.
Please can children be using Times Table Rock Stars to practice their times tables. On the app or website, there is an ‘Officially Unofficial MTC’ that opens on the 16th of January. This will mirror what the official Multiplication and Times Table Check will look like when the children take it in June. The test will be 25 questions in any times table up to 12x12 and the children will have 6 seconds to answer each question. Please ensure your children are practicing regularly and understand the importance of knowing their times tables.
