Rosie our school dog
We would like to introduce you to Rosie!
In October 2022, Rosie joined the staff and pupils of Rowanfield Junior and Infant School.
It has been shown that children can benefit both educationally and emotionally, increase their understanding of responsibility and develop empathy and nurturing skills through contact with a dog. In addition to these benefits, children take great enjoyment from interaction with a dog and these are the reasons why we believe that introducing a school dog will help the pupils at Rowanfield.
Rosie is a pug, a breed who are known for their charming and mischievous nature. They are playful and adaptable dogs which makes them a perfect companion for children.
Rosie will initially be kept in the office or Mrs Oates' office but will eventually travel to other schools in the Trust. When walking around the school she will be kept on a lead and there will be a designated area for her toileting.
This will be a learning journey for all involved. We realise that some children may have phobias about dogs and we hope that both Rosie and the children can learn together and overcome any phobias that they may have. However, if you do not want your child to be in the company of the school dog then we respect your decision and you can choose for your child not to come into contact with Cooper.
We are so looking forward to this exciting new member of staff joining our already amazing team!
