PSHE/ R(S)HE

It is a statutory requirement to teach most of PSHE education. The statutory element, often referred to as RSHE, covers Relationships Education and Health education at key stages 1 and 2. At Rowanfield Infant School and Junior School, we also teach Relationships and Sex Education, at an age appropriate level, to children in all year groups.

PSHE education also covers economic wellbeing, careers & enterprise education, and personal safety. This includes assessing and managing risk, as well as basic first aid skills. Though not yet statutory, these are vital parts of our school PSHE curriculum. We are passionate about providing children with the opportunity to understand their local community, by working closely with PCSO’s and other services within the Gloucestershire area.

Our curriculum has been developed with the support of the GHLL (Gloucestershire Healthy Living and Learning) and combines lessons, learning objectives and resources from a wide range of accredited sources, such as the PSHE Association.

We work closely with the UK's leading charity provider of PSHE and wellbeing education in primary schools - Coram Life Education & SCARF. Once a year, the children take part in an age appropriate LifeBase experience with Harold the Giraffe which aids them in developing essential life skills and encourages them to talk about sensitive issues.
